In a recent survey of Autism-Products.com customers, 62% of the respondents said that their loved one had regular diarrhea and/or constipation and 50% reported stomach or intestinal pain.

Gut issues are one of the most common conditions of individuals with Autism.  The centers for Disease Control has found that individuals with Autism are 3.5 times more likely to suffer from chronic diarrhea or constipation.

Many researchers suggest that gut issues worsen or “trigger” Autistic behavior. 

Of the individuals that have tried the gluten free casien free diet (GFCF), 69% said that they saw at least some improvement.  35% said that they experienced moderate to amazing improvement while 31% said that it didn’t help at all.  Gluten free and casein free diets are diets that don’t include wheat and dairy products.  Many grocery stores and restaurants are starting to carry many of these products making it easier to follow the GFCF diet.

Other interesting results of the survey, 79% of the individuals were boys, 86% were younger than 12, and only 40% had tried the GFCF diet.

Autism is a mental condition that usually presents itself in early childhood.  It is usually characterized by lack of communication, trouble with social behaviors and abstract concepts.
