A Montana beauty queen has described her experience of growing up with autism ahead of her appearance in the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas this weekend.

Alexis Wineman, 18, from Cut Bank, was diagnosed with Pervasive Development Disorder and borderline Aspergers Syndrome at the age of 11.
Now she is using her position as a platform to raise awareness about the disorder.

The film will be a submission for her ‘platform issue’ – a pageant requirement, but it is not the first time Miss Wineman has spoken out about her life with autism.
In an interview late last year with DisabilityScoop she admits that she was an ‘oddball out’ and struggled to fit in with her peers during her early teens.
