12-year-old Dylan Dyke is fighting to keep his two therapy ducks after neighbors complained that the two ducks were lowering the house prices in the neighborhood. Dylan has been ordered by officials in Georgetown, Michigan to get rid of his two ducks, Bill, and Nibbles because they are against zoning laws which state that homeowners can’t keep farm animals.

autism therapy ducksDylan’s neighbors have complained about the two ducks pooing on their gardens, roaming the area, being noisy and potentially lowering the property values in the area. One neighbor said in an interview “The sight and smell is offensive and embarrassing… It could affect our home values as well.Another neighbor said, “The ducks are free to roam around when their autistic child is present, but often stray from the property and defecate on others’ lawns, beaches and patios.

While they may be just a pair of ducks to an ordinary person, to Dylan, Bill and Nibbles mean the world to him. Dylan’s family aren’t just going to roll over and get rid of the two ducks without putting up a fight. They have planned several different events to help support their fight against officials and bring awareness to the issue. They have organized a benefit concert to help raise funds for their fight, as well as a GoFundMe page and Facebook page.

What it all boils down too, however, is a young child that loves his pets and is about to have them forcibly taken from him through no fault of his own. Dylan saidI can tell them anything and they just won’t be bothered by it. These ducks understand me so much. My siblings do as well, but these ducks just trust me more. It just wouldn’t be the same (if they were taken). I know we’re going to win since I love these ducks so much and I know that a lot of people online love ducks as well.

His mum, Jen Dyke, addedThese ducks are his everything. They’re his whole life.
